14 DAY TRIAL // One of the latest appealing applications that owners of handsets running under Symbian can download and install on their devices is the Nokia Nearby application, which has just been made available for download via the Nokia Beta Labs.
The new mobile software comes as a hyper-local search application aimed at offering users the possibility to seek for information on places or listings that are near their location.
Moreover, the new mobile application was aimed at enabling users to easily share the just-discovered info with their friends straight through the mobile phone in their hands.
[ADMARk=1]The new mobile application was made available for download for all handsets running under the Series40 & S60 platforms.
However, the app was meant mainly for users in emerging markets, which means that there was an emphasis on Series40 devices, including those who did not arrive with a GPS inside them, or with support for Nokia Maps.
With the new mobile application, users will find it easy to discover places & listings like restaurants, movie theaters, and malls around them.
Moreover, the mobile software will provide a wide range of details on those places, and will also enable them to contact the place from within the application.
The main features of the new application include:
- Discover & access info on places & listings around your location - Search for location specific information within your vicinity - Share place information with friends via SMS - Send the entire app to friends via Bluetooth - Call the listing from within the app
The application has been made available for download only in beta for the moment, and some aspects might not work as intended, but it will receive updates in the not-too-distant future, so that users will benefit from an enhanced experience.
“In this beta pilot, our goal is to understand the usability of this service. We would like to understand the usefulness of the service as well as get your thoughts on what features you think could be a part of such a service in the future,” the development team explains.
