Nokia N97 mini receives new firmware update

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia released on Monday, February 1, a new software update for one of its high-end devices, the Nokia N97, and now we learn that the company also delivered a new firmware solution for another popular handset of theirs, the Nokia N97 mini. The smaller version of N97 has just been updated to firmware version 11.0.045, which is said to bring along a nice range of improvements over the previously available software iteration.

The new firmware version 11.0.045 for the Nokia N97 mini is only available for users via the Nokia Software Update, and is said to weigh in at 160 MB. As it usually happens with such software solutions from Nokia, an over-the-air update might also arrive in the near future, but those interested in having their handsets up to date as soon as possible should go for the traditional “via a Windows computer” process.

Among the changes that the new software version comes around with, we can count:
- More free RAM after booting (around 6MB more)
- Improved call reliability
- Browser improvements
- Music player improvements
- Improved image and video stability

As with the new firmware solution for the Nokia N97, the new software for N97 mini does not include the newly released Ovi Maps 3.3. However, those interested in benefiting from the features of the software, which most of you might know already that is now provided for free by Nokia, can easily install it via the 'Software update' on the device, either from the Ovi Store or from maps.nokia.com.

In addition, it is known that Nokia N97 mini comes around with User Data Preservation (UDP), yet one should also consider performing a backup of all files on the phone prior to launching the update process, just to make sure that no important info is lost. We should further mention that, according to the guys over at All About Symbian, removing the Facebook and AccuWeather homescreen widgets after the update should provide around 55MB of RAM free on a N97 mini.

Still waiting for the latest software (v11) for the N97 Mini, but although available from Nokia it is still NOT available for a Vodafone branded handset :-(

Anyone any ideas when it WILL be available. Is JUNE (ref Gav) the definitive date??

Great news!

Unfortunatly you failed to state when the firmware will be offered to the general public. Mine (a RM-555) is on 10.0.020 and there is no update available today.
