Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is reported to have recently released into the wild a major firmware update for its Nokia N96 handset, namely software v20.050. The new firmware version is set to bring to users improvements such as enhanced email support (a new email shortcut can now be seen on the handset's homescreen), or improvements to WiFi support.

In addition, the v20.050 update also includes personalization settings for Audio Themes, as well as for slideshow wallpaper and slide handling, along with better camera image quality, Flash Lite video support and more. The new firmware update for the Nokia N96 can be found at the Nokia Software Updater or over the air.

A detailed look at the enhancements the new firmware brings along shows that it comes with the new Nokia Email wizard, which should make it easier for users to set up email on their handsets. There are two options that the wizard offers, 'E-mail' and 'Nokia email', the former offering to set up Mail for Exchange and standard email, while the latter installing version 1.0 of the Nokia Messaging client application and service.

The support for Audio themes means that there will be sounds played in accordance to certain events, while the extra slide handling settings include call answering and key lock. In addition, there is an App update solution that offers users the possibility to update the installed applications on the phone without performing and update for the entire firmware.

According to All About Symbian, a series of smaller updates have been included in the new firmware version as well, among which we can count a bug fix for certificates, improved camera performance, a new version of the Music player, enhanced support for Flash Lite video, and more.

As many of you might already know, the Nokia N96 comes with UDP (user data preservation), though it would still be a good idea to back up your data before proceeding with the update, just to make sure you won't lose any important information.
