On Tuesday, mobile phone maker Nokia announced the launch of a new smartphone, the Nokia N9, which is its first device to run under the MeeGo platform.

The handset will reportedly be accompanied by another MeeGo-based device from the company, the Nokia N950, which should prove a great option for developers, it seems, and which can be seen in the video embedded below.

Nokia did not make an official announcement on the availability of Nokia N950, but the handset was spotted on the company's website, and things seem to have been already carved in stone.

Basically, the N950 should be released as a QWERTY-enabled flavor of Nokia N9, though there are also a series of other differences the two sport from one another.

The Nokia N950 developer phone should arrive on the market with a 4-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display, capable of delivering a 854 x 480 pixels resolution.

On the inside, it should sport the same 1GHz OMAP3630 processor and PowerVR SGX530 graphics as the Nokia N9, along with a 1320 mAh battery.

The same as the Nokia N9, the developer device would sport an 8-megapixel photo snapper, along with Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, WiFi and more.

As can be seen in the video embedded below, as well as in the photos attached to the left courtesy of Mobilenet.cz, (via), the Nokia N950 does sport a similar outer design as the N9, save for the sliding keyboard.

The Nokia N950 and the Nokia N9 should be the only MeeGo-based devices that Nokia would bring to the market, before the company moves to Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system.

Both Nokia N950 and Nokia N9 are the successors of Nokia N900, the Maemo-based smartphone the company launched two years ago.

For the time being, no specific info on when would the Nokia N950 be released for developers emerged, but more should become available soon, so stay tuned.
