Nokia N95 Released Via SoftBank, Together With Other New Phones

- SoftBank enlarges its 2008 phone line-up

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

SoftBank, the third largest mobile operator from Japan, announced the release of several new handsets for its subscribers, including Nokia N95 and other Samsung, Toshiba and HTC phones.

Nokia N95, one of the Finnish producer's flagship handsets, will be released under the name of Softbank X02NK, bringing its 5 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics to Japanese users. The Nseries slider packs a 2.6 inch display, GPS, Media player, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, HSPDA, WAP 2.0 and HTML browser, plus lots of other features that made it one of the most wanted phones in Europe and North America. Nokia N95 will be available for Japan in red, white and blue starting April 2008. Its retail price has not been disclosed yet.

SoftBank will also release two Samsung clamshell phones, Samsung 820SC and Samsung 821SC. The first one will be available from February as SoftBank 820SC, and offers 3G connectivity, 1-seg support for Mobile TV, a 2.6-inch OLED display, a 2 Megapixel camera with Auto focus, Bluetooth and Music player. The second clamshell, Samsung 821SC, available from March, looks like a phone for kids and comes with a 2.4 inch OLED screen, 2 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Music player and micro SD card support for up to 4GB of extended memory. Both Samsung phones will be offered in several color options.

If Samsung 821SC looks like a phone for kids, the Toshiba 820T model, announced for a release in early February, is by far a phone for the little ones. The handset comes in a clamshell form and will be available in pink, white and blue, bringing a fun and easy to use interface, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, a 2.4 inch screen, GPS (for helping parents to know where their children are) and buzzer function for crime prevention.

Besides the above mentioned phones, SoftBank also prepares other two similar Toshiba handsets, plus the HTC X03HT which features Windows Mobile 6 and a sliding QWERTY keyboard.
