Wireless carrier T-Mobile USA is reportedly preparing something new for its users, a secret project that voices over the Internet called either “Project Dark” or “Project Black.” This new offering from the mobile phone operator is reportedly connected either to a handset or a series of handsets that should soon make an appearance on its airwaves, as well as with some new service plans.
According to a recent post on BGR, which unveiled some details on the said project, we might soon learn than the carrier is about to launch on its airwaves the recently unveiled Nokia N900,
the high-end Maemo 5-powered Internet Tablet, along with another Nseries mobile phone from the Finnish handset maker Nokia. At the same time, the BlackBerry Bold 9700, which should be unveiled in the following weeks, might also have something to do with the project, it seems.
The piece on BGR
says that these are not the only goodies T-Mobile is preparing for its users, “but they’ll also be pushing something pretty amazing — a $50 all you can eat plan that includes voice, SMS, MMS and data. Apparently,
this plan will be called “Everything Unlimited” and is meant to represent T-Mobile’s new strategy which will essentially see it try and poach subs from various low-cost carriers. We’ve also been told that T-Mobile will be adopting a very Walmart slogan of 'More for Less.'”
These details on Project Dark are not official and might prove not to be real in the end, but rumors sometimes pan out, one should agree. BGR states that the upcoming Android-based
Motorola CLIQ and Samsung Behold II might also be included in the project, and that it might have something to do with the expansion of T-Mobile’s 3G network, and not on the UMTS side, but on the 21Mbps HSPA area.
The one thing that is certain is that the competition on the US mobile phone market seems to have intensified lately, and it is expected to be even tighter in the near future, and, since more carriers are offering
enhanced services at lower price tags, the roll-out of these Everything Unlimited plans might prove true in the end. Hopefully, this will pan out, and both the services and the new handset will soon be unveiled by the carrier.
