Nokia N9, the first smartphone that Nokia unveiled to the world with the MeeGo platform on board, is on its way to the market in Australia, and should soon make an appearance on shelves at wireless carrier Vodafone.

The operator has already announced plans to carry the new mobile phone, and even put it on its website, on a page where users interested in its arrival can register for updates.

Packing a large 3.9-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, an all-touch design and the said MeeGo platform on board, the Nokia N9 can be seen on Vodafone Australia's website here, with the “coming soon” tag all over it.

“Introducing an all-screen smartphone like no other. It all comes together beautifully with the scratch-resistant glass merging perfectly into the smooth one-piece body. And there's innovation in every detail,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

The Nokia N9 arrives on shelves at the Australian operator with 64GB of internal memory, and with support for 3G 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz frequencies.

On the back, the new mobile phone sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper with Carl Zeiss optics and HD 720p video recording capabilities, one of the fastest cameras packed inside a smartphone until now.

The specs list of this device also includes WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, along with USB slot, MP3 player, email and Internet browser, access to social networking sites, and video calling.

Nokia's MeeGo handset is powered by a battery that can deliver up to 7 hours of talk time, or up to 432 hours of standby time.

“Nokia N9 comes with quality must-have apps straight out of the box, including Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Accuweather and AP Mobile. You also get Angry Birds to keep you entertained for hours, plus there are other essential apps and games at Ovi Store,” Vodafone explains.

The smartphone measures 116.5 x 61.2 x 12.1mm, weighs in at 135 grams and is based on the aforementioned MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan operating system.
