Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia is reportedly gearing up for the release of their first smartphone powered by the new MeeGo platform, and the first video that apparently teases some of the handset's capabilities has made an appearance into the wild. Nokia's first MeeGo smartphone would be the N9 rumor has it, a phone that emerged on the Internet before as the Nokia N950, but which is not official as of yet.

However, rumor has it that it should not be too long before the mobile phone is unveiled to the world, and that May would be the month during which Nokia would plan to officially introduce the new device.

Enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for this ever since spring last year, when the first hints at a possible MeeGo smartphone from the Finnish handset vendor started to emerge.

The said video, embedded at the bottom of this article, provides a glimpse at the physical appearance of this smartphone, as well as a quick look at the user interface it would sport when made available for purchase.

The video comes from Pocketnow, and is nothing more than a professional-looking teaser commercial for the mobile phone, which doesn't even mention the handset's name, nor the MeeGo platform.

However, what seems to be the official MeeGo Facebook page already picked it up, and posted a series of screenshots with the phone's UI, which leaves little room for doubt regarding the device and its software.

For those out of the loop, we should also note that the Nokia N9/N950 was recently spotted at FCC, which suggested that it might not be too long before we would see it on shelves.

With the MeeGo conference set for next week, chances are that the device would be unveiled before May is over. Other MeeGo-based smartphones are also expected to make an appearance at the event, one of them coming from LG.

Nokia already promised a powerful MeeGo phone to its users, though only a single one, and the Nokia N9 is expected to be that handset. No official word on the smartphone's capabilities emerged for the time being.

Update: Since the aforementioned Facebook page is not the official MeeGo account, it remains to be seen whether the platform would indeed be confirmed for this device. Only a formal announcement would shed some more light on this, but Nokia is neither confirming nor denying rumors on the video and on N9, it seems.
