Nokia pushed the major PR1.2 update for the N9 a few months ago and promised the next update would be released in Q2 2012.

N9 owners who already installed PR1.2 already know that the update includes lots of new features and improvements that enhance users’ experience.

The phone’s 8-megapixel rear camera received major improvements and new features such as integrated automated face recognition and the ability to enable it within the Gallery.

Continuous shutter has been included as well, allowing users to take near perfect shots while taking photos of non-static subjects.

With PR1.2, N9 users can also edit videos captured with the smartphone, by cutting out parts of it or adding a certain tune.

According to Nokia, these are not the only improvements of the 8-megapixel rear photo snapper. The company plans to add more enhancements for the camera with the next PR1.3 update.

It appears that Russian blog site bestmeego has learned that the Finnish handset maker is close to launching the promised PR1.3 update for Nokia N9.

A Nokia rep told bestmeego that PR1.3 firmware for N9 has been under testing and will be available for download to all users before the beginning of June.

The company’s official also confirmed that the update will contain a fairly large number of changes, but did not want to be more specific on the subject.

This is rather strange, as Nokia was pretty clear on the upcoming PR1.3 update by saying that it will be “small but valuable.” It’s probably the main reason why we would expect this firmware update to contain mainly bug fixes and less new features.

Although the information has been confirmed by a Nokia representative, we should take it with a grain of salt until the company comes forward with an official statement. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
