Affecting its microUSB charging port

Nokia N86, the first handset Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia launched on the market with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on board, reportedly comes with some hardware issues. It seems that there were a large number of Nokia N86 units that were brought in for repair, something that had happened before with the company's flagship models Nokia N97 and N900.

According to a recent article on Mobile News, dealers and repair centers report that a high amount of Nokia N86 are being brought back for repair, and that the hardware issues spotted with the device affect its microUSB charging port. Moreover, the news site notes that the same problems were previously signaled for the N900 and N97 handsets.

The microUSB charging socket on N86 is pushed inside the handset when connecting the cable, this being the major issue customers are complaining about. A similar problem was spotted on the N900, as the device came with two prongs on the charging cable too tight, making the entire microUSB port to come out when disconnecting the charging cable.

“Nokia handsets seem to be the main culprit when it comes to weak microUSB ports. Users can be clumsy when charging their phones but in any case this should be fitted well enough to withstand such pressure,” one repair center stated, Mobile News reports. Proprietor Mike Young commented, “What makes it disappointing is that it’s not the first time this has occurred on Nokia phones and there’s a fear that this will now be widespread on its handsets.”

However, it seems that Nokia does not acknowledge the hardware problems with its devices. A Nokia spokesperson said that “Nokia Care, Nokia’s user support center, has not recorded any user complaints about faulty USB sockets on the N86 device.” For what it's worth, even if the issue is not a wide spread one, Nokia should consider at least investigating the matter, so as to make sure that there are no manufacturing flaws in the handset's design.
