14 DAY TRIAL // Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia seems to be determined to update the firmware of about all of its handsets available on the market. We already learned last week that a bunch of Nokia mobile phones had received a new software version, and now it is time to talk about other firmware updates for the company's devices.
This time around, one of the mobile phones to see a new firmware version is the recently launched Nokia N86 8MP, the first handset from the company to come to the market with an impressive 8-megapixel photo snapper. In addition to the new device, the Nokia E63 is another phone that the world's largest phone maker decided to enhance with a new software iteration.
The solution for the Nokia N86 8MP, version 11.043 we learn, comes with a series of bug fixes and improvements, something that we are already accustomed with, while also bringing official Ovi Store compatibility, as well as some camera tweaks. Given the fact that the handset sports UDP (User Data Preservation), a backup of your data is not necessary, but it might prove useful in case something goes wrong.
And since we're talking Nokia N86 8MP, we should also mention the fact that the handset maker has recently added an iSync plug-in for the device. Mac users can download it from Nokia's website so as to be able to sync PIM data to their smartphone. The solution is free and allows the transfer of Contacts and Calendar information to Address book and iCal on the Mac.
As for the Nokia E63, the firmware version available for it is now at version 200.21.012. Some of the improvements and novelties that it comes around with include Ovi Contacts and Files on Ovi applications, along with visual bookmarks for Facebook and YouTube. The file weighs 108MB, which is a lot, so it should pack other fixes and enhancements as well.
Nokia E63 owners, keep in mind that you should back up your data before proceeding with the update, so that no important files on your device are lost. Both the firmware update for Nokia N86 8MP and the one for Nokia E63 can be downloaded via the Nokia Software Updater, while the N86 8MP one can be downloaded OTA as well (enter *#0000# on the home screen).
