Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced at the Mobile World Congress a new mobile imaging device that combines the wide-angle Carl Zeiss optics and an 8-megapixel sensor, the Nokia N86 8MP. The new device comes with both photo snapping and video capture capabilities, while also sporting high-speed connectivity. According to the company, the new Nokia N86 will start shipping in the second quarter of the year at a retail price of EUR 375, before taxes and subsidies.

“People demand mobile cameras that take excellent pictures in all light conditions,” says Juha-Pekka Sipponen, director, Nokia Nseries. “That's why the aperture of the Nokia N86 8MP is comparable to that of a high-quality, stand-alone digital camera. Whether it's running with the bulls in Pamplona or capturing the panoramic beauty of a sunrise over Sydney, the Nokia N86 8MP will take brilliantly clear, wide-angle images that are instantly geotagged to be uploaded onto sites like Ovi Share or Flickr.”

Nokia N86 8MP has been designed with the passionate photographers in mind. The wide-angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens is perfect for panoramic pictures, offering the possibility to take sharp photos no matter the light conditions. At the same time, the internal memory of the phone allows for up to 4,000 images to be taken at a time. In addition, the device also comes with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage.

“When it comes to taking the best digital photos, it's the quality of the lens and the sensor that count, not just the quantity of pixels. The Nokia N86 8MP is the first mobile device with variable aperture, adding to the Carl Zeiss Tessar lens for excellent results. It has never been easier to capture special moments in such a great quality,” says Helmut Heier of Carl Zeiss.

In addition, the new Nokia N86 8MP comes with a bright OLED screen, easy photo management and full sync capability with a PC, as well as TV-out support for slide shows. Moreover, the device also features the latest Nokia Maps and full Ovi integration, as well as a built-in compass, and a 3-month license for full voice and pedestrian navigation.

The handset can offer up to 25 hours of music listening on one charge. In addition, it comes with the Nokia Bluetooth Stereo Headset BH-214, meant to leverage the listening experience even further. Access to the Nokia Music Store will provide users with millions of tracks to choose from.
