Nokia N86 8MP, the first handset from the Finnish company to sport an 8-megapixel photo snapper, has just received a new firmware update, one that was expected to come for quite some time with a series of new goodies for the users. Available both over-the-air (by typing *#0000# on the home screen) and via Nokia Software Update, the new firmware brings an important new feature into the equation, face detection.
Other features brought along by firmware v20.115 for
the Nokia N86 8MP include improved still image quality, improved video quality, red-eye removal (users will have to enable the red-eye reduction flash mode for this option to work), new focus point indication (showing the point the camera is focused at), and improved Close-up focus (which also helps users confirm the part they want to focus on).
The list of improvements that have been packed within the new
software version also includes:
- Automatic VoIP re-registration.
- Ovi Chat shortcut on the homescreen
- A new Ovi services splash screen
- An Ovi Store client (though it's buggy, selections from the Options menu are problematic... - best use the mobile Ovi Store site in the meantime?)
- An initial option to check for software updates when a customer first boots up the phone According to All About Symbian, a series of bug fixes also came along with the firmware, including some connected to the web capabilities of the device, to the music store client, RealPlayer, Ovi Maps, N-Gage client, Here and Now, and Nokia Messaging. An increase in the free space on C: has been also spotted, as well as more free RAM (65MB at boot time). There are no details on which
product codes can now enjoy the firmware update, yet they should all have it in short time.
As many of you might already know, the
Nokia N86 8MP comes with UDP (User data preservation), which means that all personal files should remain intact throughout the update process, yet making a backup before proceeding is never a bad idea.
