Nokia N8 is the first released smartphone to run Symbian^3, but strongly resembles earlier versions of the operating system. The main reason is the fact that Nokia didn't have the time and, probably the spare resources, to start a new OS from the scratch. Basically, Nokia engineers worked on the Symbian^1 platform adding new features and enhancements, making it faster and more eye-candy.

The advantages of using a capacitive touchscreen leaded to some functionality improvements, like skipping some unnecessary steps to access a certain setting.

Besides the fact that you are forced to make multiple clicks to open a new link in the web browser, or to simply write a text with the virtual QWERTY keyboard, some settings have been changed and require some knowledge about the Symbian^3, which only comes in time.

For example, the way you can uninstall a third-party application from your Nokia N8 changed a little bit. If I were to compare it with Symbian^1 the method improved a little by skipping a small step.

To uninstall an application simply go to Application manager and click on the Installed apps option. A long / short list of apps will display on your screen.

Now, what really changed is the fact that you don't need to click on the application you want to uninstall and then click on the Options menu where you can use the Uninstall option.

You only need to tap and hold on the app and a quick menu will appear, so you can choose the Uninstall option. Don't click on the Option menu, as the Uninstall won't appear there anymore.

Another interesting option that has improved the functionality of the OS is the selection of your Internet access point.

If you have set multiple Access point for your Internet connection and you have a hard time prioritizing one of them, here is how you should do it.

Click on the Settings menu and go to Connectivity. You will find the Access points menu that contains every connectivity option that you have for data transfers. For Symbian^1 users would have to select one of the Access points and click on the Options / Organize / Change priority.

Well, things have become simple and you can now tap and click on the connection that you want to use by default and from the quick menu that will display on your screen choose the Priority.

If you had the chance to use Nokia N8 and discovered more tips and tricks feel free to add them here.
