Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers has just added a new mobile phone to its offering, namely the high-end Nokia N8, the first handset to land on shelves with the Symbian^3 OS on board.

The new Nokia device becomes available for purchase in Canada exclusively via Rogers, and was already put on sale at the wireless carrier.

Just as previously rumored, the smartphone sports a price tag of $79.99 with select three-year voice and data plans.

With Nokia N8, Canadian mobile phone users will benefit from a nice range of high-end features, including great multimedia capabilities.

This is the first Nokia device to come to the market with a 12-megapixel photo snapper, which also sports Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and HD quality video recording capabilities.

The handset also comes with a large, 3.5-inch touchscreen display, as well as with Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound, so as to offer a great video entertainment experience.

“The Nokia N8 has seen the most consumer pre-orders globally of any Nokia phone to date– and this is a company with a truly rich history not only in Canada, but around the world,” said Richard White, General Manager of Nokia Canada.

“We are thrilled to debut the powerful new Symbian software in Canada on the Nokia N8 and also offer Canadian customers a truly phenomenal multimedia experience in one beautifully designed package.”

The specifications list of this handset also includes 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Other specs of the new device include HDMI connectivity, Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth capabilities, built-in GPS receiver, and a battery that can offer up to six hours of video-playback time.

Not to mention that the mobile phone comes with great social networking capabilities, as well as with enhanced email and messaging features.

Among the features that users can enjoy in this area on their Nokia N8 devices, we can count status updates, location sharing, sharing of photos, or viewing live feeds from Facebook and Twitter, all in a single app, and all straight to one of the phone’s three homescreens.

The Nokia N8 can be purchased from Rogers’ website too. If bought without a contract, the handset would cost $449.99.
