Symbian Anna, the latest flavor of Nokia's mobile operating system, is expected to arrive on older models from the company as soon as next month, while being made available for download starting with August.

The handset vendor has just unveiled plans to start shipping Nokia N8, E7, C7 and C6-01 devices around the world with the new Symbian Anna OS version as soon as July.

The announcement was made at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore, where Nokia also unveiled that the new OS iteration will be made available for download by the end of August for all of the aforementioned handsets.

The new software will be made available for download both over-the-air, as well as via the PC application.

The Symbian Anna upgrade gives you a set of new icons, a faster web browser, improved text input and enhanced maps. In other words, your phone will get a free make-over, giving you a better experience while remaining reliable and easy to use,” a post on Nokia Conversations reads.

Some of the main enhancements that Symbian Anna comes with include a split screen view while typing, a virtual portrait QWERTY, refreshed Ovi Maps with check-in to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and more.

At the same time, the company announced that it remains committed to Symbian and that it plans on launching a number of no less than 10 new Symbian devices during the next 12 months.

This announcement is accompanied by the unveiling of the Nokia N9, the company's first MeeGo-based device, and by the launch of three new S40 handsets, namely the Nokia C2-02, C2-03 and C2-06.

“Earlier this year, we outlined a comprehensive strategy to change our course,” said Stephen Elop, president and CEO of Nokia. “Innovation is at the heart of our strategy, and today we took important steps to demonstrate a new pace of innovation at Nokia. It's the beginning of a new era for Nokia.”
