Nokia announced yesterday the launch of its new Nokia N79 Active, which the company says will be shipped along with the wireless Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt from Polar, a leading player in the sports instruments and heart rate monitoring industry.

“Polar is the number one choice for heart rate worldwide,” said Marco Suvilaakso, executive director, Polar, Sports Business Area. “Now with the Nokia N79 Active, the comfortable Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt takes the guess-work out of training. When you can objectively see how hard your body is working, you can enjoy working out with a whole new level of confidence.”

The new addition to the Nokia Nseries lineup comes to prove itself as the perfect running companion. It brings A-GPS tracking and also includes a new version of the well-known Nokia Sports Tracker application, both available right out-of-the-box, allowing users to record and publish their favorite routes and fitness data on the Web. At the same time, they can also share the music they listen to while working out, and are offered the possibility to upload and geotag route images shot with their Nokia N79 Active's built-in 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics.

“The Nokia N79 Active is all about fun and fitness,” said Juha Kokkonen, director, Nokia Nseries. “This handset keeps you entertained on those long workouts as you get in shape for next summer, while the Polar heart rate belt lets you know exactly how you're doing. And with Sports Tracker you can add a new social dimension to your fitness program by building up and sharing a great record of all your workouts. This is an inspiring way to track your progress and to challenge yourself and fellow workout partners.”

The Nokia N79 Active, currently the smallest device in the Nokia Nseries, also comes with sporty headphones as well as with an armband allowing users to stay plugged in as they work out. In addition, the phone also ships with a 4GB microSD memory card so that users would have enough music to listen to during long endurance sessions. Moreover, new tracks can be added to the playlist wirelessly from the Nokia Music Store, while the handset's FM transmitter allows for radio tuning.

The Finnish giant announced that the new Nokia N79 Active would become available in select markets for a price tag of around EUR 375 before taxes and subsidies.
