Nokia announced the N79 back in August, but at that time there was no mention that it would work in AT&T's 3G US network. Now, thanks to our favorite feds, the FCC, we find that the phone is also sporting dual band 3G (850/1900MHz) under the codename RM-350, meaning it supports
AT&T's high-speed network.
It was kind of a surprise to see that the Nokia device that was tested under the codename RM-350 was the actual
N79. A bigger surprise was to see that it passed all the tests and got the thumbs up for 3G networking, so, according to what we found out from FCC's website, the phone is actually compatible with AT&T's 3G network. This means that it will probably be officially presented by the mobile carrier soon.
For those of you who don't know much about the N79, we'll give you a quick recap of the specs. The device is part of the Nseries, thus it's a smartphone, presented in a candybar form factor, and it features
S60 3rd
Edition Feature Pack 2, a 5 megapixel camera (2592x1944 pixels) with autofocus and Carl Zeiss optics as well as dual-LED flashligh.
It also sports video recording capabilities (VGA 30fps), a secondary videocall camera, and also user-changeable XpressOn covers. Other features include stereo speakers, GPS receiver, A-GPS support, MP3 player, FM radio with RDS, FM transmitter, TV out, a 3.5 mm audio output jack and more.
The Nokia N79 is expected to be shipped during the forth quarter of 2008, and has an estimated price of about 521USD or 350EUR. The phone is liked by some, disliked by others, but one thing is pretty sure: it packs a lot of goodies.
