The N series was Nokia's proud and glory line-up of high-end smartphones, but to some degree it has become the company's nemesis.

The inability to advance technologically led to Nokia's demise and the N series, the phones that should have been the Finnish giant's spearhead for the market, has become a simple portfolio of obsolete handsets.

However, the new wave of Symbian Anna smartphones announced by Nokia recently is trying to change this by rehashing the phone's interface and graphics without adding new hardware, which was always praised by tech-savvy users.

Nokia N5 is one of the latest smartphones that are about to make their debut on the market and try and make some profit for Nokia until the first Windows Phone 7 device hit shelves.

The phone was spotted by the guys over at Excellular who took multiple pictures of handset, which will be available in two color schemes, black and white.

According to Excellular, Nokia N5 will soon be followed by other N series smartphones such as the N6 and N7.

Anyway, the N5 looks like a standard bar smartphone with a large touchscreen that strongly resembles the old Symbian S60 5th Edition devices that were launched a while ago.

Fortunately, the N5 runs the latest Symbian Anna operating system and is meant to replace the decrepit S60 5th Edition smartphones.

Little is known about the phone's current hardware, but from the leaked pictures we noticed a 5-megapixel camera on the back that features LED flash and a loudspeaker.

In addition, the phone's touch screen display might have around 3.2-inch or 3.5-inch, while on the right side a microSD card slot for memory expansion can be seen.

Furthermore, the N5 has a volume control and a dedicated camera button on right side, as well.

No information about the phone's release date and price tag has been disclosed yet, but the Nokia N5 will surely hit shelves by the end of 2011.
