Nokia surprised us all when it revealed the N1 tablet on November 18. It was actually its first branded product after Microsoft completed the acquisition that took the Finnish company under its mighty wing.

Anyway, back when it was introduced, Nokia said the slate would become available for purchase in China before the Chinese New Year, which takes place on 19 February 2015, but plans for an international launch weren't disclosed.

Nokia N1 will arrive earlier

Well, the good news is that according to Chinese sources the tablet will come a little bit earlier, at least in China. According to Tablet News, Nokia’s first Android tablet will be available for purchase starting January 7.

On the same day, the company will hold a new conference in which it will disclose more details about the tablet’s availability.

That’s pretty good news, as the tablet is an exciting product we can’t help to see arrive on the market. For those of you who missed our earlier coverage on the tablet, we’ll take a few moments to remind you what makes this slate attractive.

First of all, it comes with a compact form factor of 7.9-inch. The display boasts 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution and has Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the IPS panel plus LED backlight.

When it launched, Nokia also said the tablet took advantage of a fully laminated zero air-gap display. Under the hood, pumping life into the whole shebang is a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.3GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Nokia employs the help of PowerVR G6430 GPU to keep the graphics department moving. As for photography, the tablet has an 8MP camera on the back and 5MP front-facing one, both capable of recording 1080p video recording.

Another selling point here is that the tablet has quite a thin frame, coming in at 6.9mm / 0.27 inches, although the iPad Air is more anorexic with its 6.1mm / 0.21 inches profile.

Nokia’s N1 relies on a decent 5300 mAh battery, but we’re not told how long the slate is supposed to last. This is for testers and customers to discover later.

The N1 also makes use of two stereo speakers which allow total harmonic distortion to be less than 10%, plus a microUSB 2.0 with Type-C reversible connector.

Nokia N1 is a pretty high-end tablet coming in at a budget price

N1 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box with Z-Launcher applied on top. The tablet is rumored to go on sale for a pretty affordable $250 / €204, so what do you think? Are you considering picking one up?
