No phones to support it yet

Nokia Music Store has just been launched after several moths of taunting from the handset producer. The service will bring millions of tracks from major artists, independent labels as well as local hits.

Nokia users will be able to access the Music Store from their desktop computer or directly from optimized Nokia devices. There are only two such handsets available at this time and they have not even hit the market. The company has just announced the Nokia N81 and Nokia N95 8GB phone models and set them for a future release. Because of this, the Music Store service will actually become available for use only when the optimized devices will be in stores.

"You can choose between purchasing tracks a la carte via your Nokia device or computer, or you can stream an unlimited number of full length tracks to your computer. The unlimited streaming is a great way to discover new music and the integrated mobile and PC download service is a fantastic way to build a music collection that is always with you", considers Tommi Mustonen, the head of Nokia's music activities.

The great thing about this service is that it also brings music locally relevant for different areas of the world. This comes as part of Nokia's serious orientation towards the music capabilities that handsets can offer. The company has launched several devices capable of handling such files at a high quality and now a service too, which make it a strong competitor in this line.

Nokia Music Store is part of the newly launched Ovi internet services. In order to be most easily remembered by potential users, it will also need an easy to remember domain and the best would be www.nokiamusicstore.com. The tricky thing about it is that this is already taken and will have to be bought by Nokia. Considering the fact that Apple has paid USD 1 million for the iphone.com domain, there are high chances that we will see a huge sum coming from the Finnish handset producer too.
