Nokia’s radio streaming service is offered for free in lots of countries, but still not in as many countries as Windows Phone fans would want. Dubbed MixRadio, the application that serves as a gateway for this music service has just been updated in Windows Phone Store.

The service could have been used by Windows Phone owners even if they were not living in those countries where Nokia launched MixRadio by simply changing the region from within their device.

Unfortunately, this is not possible anymore, as the location of the device is now determined directly from the SIM and not from within the smartphone’s settings.

This means that as long as you have a SIM purchased from a country where Nokia MixRadio hasn’t been launched, then you will not be able to use it on your Lumia smartphone.

Back to the recent update, it looks like Nokia has added more features to its music service. However, lots of Windows Phone 8.1 users complain that after the update, the application has become very slow.

Aside from the lags that Windows Phone 8.1 users claim they get when using Nokia MixRadio, a myriad of bugs seem to affect the application. It’s unclear whether or not some of these bugs have been brought in with the latest update.

Anyway, here are some of the new features that Nokia has confirmed that it has added in MixRadio version 4.4.0.418, which is now up for grabs via Windows Phone Store.

The first new feature included in the update is the automatic refresh of offline mixes. Basically, offline mixes will try to refresh after 20 days when the application is open and connected to Wi-Fi.

Nokia MixRadio users will now be able to search for mixes, while the application will recommend mixes to users based on their unique music profile. Other “bug fixes and performance improvements” have been included as well.

You can now download Nokia MixRadio for Windows Phone 4.4.0.418 for free via Windows Phone Store. Keep in mind that the application is only compatible with Lumia smartphones powered by Windows Phone 8 and up (including WP8.1).

For the time being, Nokia has confirmed that the music service is only available in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America and Vietnam.
