In a move that was somehow expected, the Nokia MixRadio service has been renamed to MixRadio today, a change that is already reflected in the dedicated applications, which have started to be updated with the new name in tow.

The info comes from Dean #MixRadio, an evangelist for the service, and has yet to be officially announced by Microsoft/Nokia.

Ever since the Redmond-based software giant purchased Nokia’s devices and services division, people have been wondering what will happen with the music streaming service, and today’s rebranding provides a partial answer to that question.

What remains to be seen, however, is whether Microsoft will choose to continue using this service or will replace it with its Xbox Music.

Most probably, the two will be merged, yet it remains to be seen what name the new service will have, and what capabilities it will inherit from the two existing products.

According to Dean, MixRadio is already highly popular on Nokia Lumia smartphones, as well as on other devices from the company, and it would be great if it remained alive on mobile devices.

Until addition info on the matter arrives, owners of Windows Phone handsets can have a look at the latest flavor of MixRadio, which has been released today as version 4.5.0.440, and which also comes with bug fixes, in addition to said change in name.

The MixRadio streaming music service is available for free. The best part of the deal, however, is the fact that it provides users with free, personalized music without advertising.

“Start listening with Play Me, an ever-changing mix based on the music you love. Use Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down to make the mix better each time you play. It’s like having your own personal radio station,” the application’s description reads.

“Also includes hundreds of handcrafted mixes, create a mix, gigs, artist notifications, mp3 store and player, and of course the ability to save your favorite mixes for offline playback so you can listen even without an internet connection.”

One thing that users should keep in mind when it comes to MixRadio is the fact that it hasn’t been released on all markets out there as of now. However, it might arrive in more countries in the not-too-distant future.

For the time being, it is available only in Australia; Austria; Brazil; Canada; China; Finland; France; Germany; India; Indonesia; Ireland; Italy; Malaysia; Mexico; Netherlands; Norway; Poland; Portugal; Russia; Saudi Arabia; Singapore; South Africa; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland; Thailand; Turkey; United Arab Emirates; United Kingdom; United States of America; and Vietnam.
