Nokia Beta Labs announced on their blog that the Nokia Messaging for Social Networks application had been discontinued. Starting today, the service is no longer available, even for users who still have the app installed on their handsets.

Released last year, Nokia Messaging for Social Networks was an experimental service which allowed users to access multiple social communities (Facebook and Twitter initially) from a single mobile client.

Some of the most important features shipped with the app included the ability to view, post, and comment on messages, share the location using GPS, home screen widget, integration with the device calendar, and more.

The application was compatible with phones powered by Symbian S60 5th Edition, such as Nokia 5230, 5530 XpressMusic, 5800 XpressMusic, N97, N97 mini and X6, as well as with the S40 handset Nokia 6700 Classic.

Even though the service is no longer available, the feedback received from beta trial participants was not in vain.

Suggestions from users will be used to prepare the release of a social networking client for Symbian^3 devices.

"We appreciate your constructive commentary on the service."

"There were many great suggestions for improvements to the client."

"While there are no plans to further develop this particular client, your feedback has helped with the prioritization of features for the commercial release of an integrated Social experience on Symbian^3 devices beginning with Nokia N8," reads the post on the Nokia Beta Labs blog.

Some of the features chosen to be introduced in the upcoming release for Symbian^3  include:

• Social Contacts: contacts and social networks are linked in the phonebook

• View all the latest social activities from Facebook and Twitter in a single place

• Share the current location or points of interest with the favorite social networks

For owners of touchscreen phones running Symbian S60 5th Edition, Nokia Beta Labs recommends the use of the official Facebook client available from the Ovi Store.
