Following the singing of a deal with Microsoft for the loading of Windows Phone on its upcoming smartphones, Nokia announced that it would also bring some of its services to handsets that run under this OS, Maps included.

What they did not announce, but it seems that they already delivered was support for other mobile operating systems in Nokia Maps, such as Android and iOS.

In addition to enjoying Google Maps while on the go, the owners of handsets running under Google's Android operating system can also load Nokia Maps on their handsets.

Only accessible via the browser at the moment, and only with limited functionality, but a beta flavor of what appears to be a web version of Nokia Maps is there for users to enjoy.

In a recent blog post, the guys over at Nokia Conversations note that the service is accessible from the browser in Android and iPhone 4 as well, and that they already gave it a try.

“On these devices, point your browser to m.maps.ovi.com and you’ll see a version of Nokia Maps. At the moment it appears to just give the option to find your current location and even plot a route from A – B, but with no voice commands or turn by turn navigation,” the said blog post reads.

“And of course, these users don’t get the option of offline maps for super-fast access with no internet connection. However, this is excellent news. Who knows what’s planned for the future?”

From a certain perspective, this does not come too much as a surprise. After all, Nokia did promise Maps for Windows Phone, and even announced access to Nokia Maps APIs, so that developers can integrate their applications with the service.

The availability of a web version of Nokia Maps will rival Google's similar offering in the area, especially if more features are added into the mix, along with support for more mobile operating systems.

Recently, Nokia made available Nokia Maps 3.08 for Symbian^3 handsets, also marking the move away from the previous Ovi branding of the service.

On Symbian and on any other mobile operating systems out there, the application / service will be known as Nokia Maps, the company unveiled.
