Lumia Windows Phones are Nokia’s only hope to save itself from becoming a minor player in the smartphone market.

Although the Finnish company somewhat confirmed it has a contingency plan in case Windows Phone fails, we’re not sure that Nokia will still have the time to put this backup plan in motion.

This is why Nokia is trying to attract devs and end users alike by launching lots of productivity and entertainment tools.

The latest applications that have just been included in the Nokia Collection for Lumia Windows Phones are meant to offer users an entertaining way to spend their free time.

Nokia announced that starting today, owners of Lumia smartphones will be able to download and install “Kaliki” news reader and “Batman Origins” comic app.

With “Kaliki” application, users will be able to browse the latest news and information from their favorite channels and publications. In addition, the news reader comes with an audio feature that allows users to listen to their favorite news being narrated by professional voice artists.

According to Nokia, the news reader application covers various areas, including Technology, Finance, Lifestyle and Celebrities, as well as Sports. That’s about all what this service has to offer to Lumia smartphone users.

The second application launched by Nokia is a simple digital comic book, called “Batman Origins.” Batman fans should know that this is a prequel comic to the new Batman movie, which is set to arrive in theaters on July 20. It is also worth mentioning that aside Batman, the comic app also features Bane.

“Batman Origins” has been developed in partnership with DC Comics and will probably be followed by other comic books.

In this regard, it looks like there’s a link inside the application that is meant to lead to another app called “The Dark Knight Rises: Prologue,” which is not yet available.
