Lumia 920 is often described as a brick, given its design and dimensions, but it turns out that this mix can actually help save lives for some.

It happened in China, where a man survived a collapsing wall thanks to the Lumia 920, which managed to withstand the shock and protect his head from the impact.

As Engadget reports today, Geng Ming used the Lumia 920 to shield his head from the wall, so the phone actually reduced the force of the impact and thus saved his life. Needless to say, the phone was destroyed after this, but that's not at all a problem because Microsoft jumped in and offered a brand new Lumia as a replacement.

A Lumia 640 XL for the hero

Needless to say, Microsoft instantly spotted the marketing opportunity here and offered to replace the broken device with a new one, so it all became pretty big news in the country.

What was a little surprising was that Microsoft offered Ming a Lumia 640 XL, the company's new phablet that's more of a mid-range model than a flagship. The Lumia 920, despite being rather old, is still considered a flagship, and came with a premium price and feature lineup, so some questioned Microsoft's decision to replace it with a more affordable model.

But there's a good explanation for this, and Microsoft cannot be accused of being cheap.

The company explains that Lumia 930, which is currently the most expensive model in its lineup and the latest flagship running Windows Phone, does not support the Chinese 4G networks, and the 640 XL was the only model that allowed Ming to make the most of the Windows Phone ecosystem while using the country's networks.

The bottom line? Don't try this at home. If you really want to get a new Windows Phone device as a gift, you’d better ask your significant other or friends to buy you one.
