Nokia’s Lumia 920, the first smartphone that the company had unveiled to the world with Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone 8 operating system, has received the necessary approvals from the WiFi Alliance.

The smartphone appeared on Alliance’s website with model number RM-821 attached to it, and with the WiFi certification issued on September 13th.

When made available for purchase, the smartphone will provide users with support for IEEE 802.11a, b, g, n and h, operating on 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz frequencies. It was also listed with support for WPA and WPA2 security.

Nokia Lumia 920 was unveiled to the world last week with a large 4.5-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 1280 x 768 pixels resolution, with PureMotion HD+ technology and Corning Gorilla Glass coating for increased protection.

The smartphone can deliver increased performance capabilities courtesy of its dual-core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 application processor.

On the back, the phone features an 8-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilization that can record videos in full HD and can shoot much clearer images than before, complemented by a front camera for making video calls.

It also comes with 32GB of internal memory, complemented by 7GB of cloud storage on SkyDrive, as well as with Bluetooth connectivity, NFC, DLNA, WiFi Hotspot capabilities, and a BP-4GW 2000 mAh battery.

Support for HSPA+, FD-LTE, HSUPA, HSDPA, and WCDMA networks was further packed inside this device, as well as wireless charging capabilities. Nokia Lumia 920 measures 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm and weighs 185 grams.

The phone’s specs are matched only by its software capabilities, powered by Windows Phone 8 and enhanced through exclusive applications coming from Nokia.

Lumia 920 is expected to arrive on shelves sometime at the beginning of November, and should reach both the US and European countries at the same time. Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 device was the first of the kind to have been compared to Apple’s new iPhone model, and is expected to prove highly successful.
