The Windows Phone device has hard times connecting to data networks

Yesterday, Nokia’s new flagship device Nokia Lumia 900 became available for purchase in the United States through wireless carrier AT&T.

This was the most expected smartphone of this first half of the year in the country, being set to make Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform relevant once more.

However, it appears that things might have not been as smooth as expected for users out there.

Some of those who already got their hands on a Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone report various issues with the handset’s network connectivity.

Apparently, the device is unable to connect to a data network, regardless of it being 2G, 3G, or 4G LTE. AT&T and Nokia are aware of the situation, and they are taking the necessary measures to minimize impact on customers.

"These devices were mass produced in a plant in Mexico and there is a defect with the IMEI's registering to the data network on 2G, 3G and 4G data", an AT&T insider said.

“AT&T and Nokia have quietly addressed and are removing stock of the defective devices. Data will work on first boot, but will stop working after a reboot, restart, turning on airplane mode or turning off data. It will show data is connected but will not work,” the said AT&T employee continued.

Apparently, users can get the data connection up and running by following a series of simple steps, although one of these involves resetting the handset.

To resolve the problem, Lumia 900 owners will need to remove the SIM card, perform a Master Reset (by going to Settings > About), and let the device boot up without the SIM inserted.

Next, they should power off the handset once more, check whether the card is SIM enabled or not, insert it and boot up again.

Many of those who tried this out say it worked for them, but this does not mean that it will resolve the issue on all affected devices. Furthermore, some say that the problem reappears.

Nokia will certainly come up with a fix for this issue in the near future, so stay tuned to learn more details on the matter.
