14 DAY TRIAL // Last week, Microsoft made official two new Nokia Lumia smartphones at the IFA 2014 trade show in Berlin, Germany, and it seems that at least one of them will be coming soon to India.
This would be the Nokia Lumia 830, the new flagship Windows Phone handset from the company, which is expected to cost Rs. 26,000 ($432/€334) in the country, before taxes.
According to a recent article on ibnlive.in.com, the smartphone will be released in the country by October, as Microsoft is determined to push its 4G-enabled products to this market as much as possible.
The second new 4G-capable phone from the company, namely the Nokia Lumia 735, might arrive in India too, priced around Rs. 17,500 ($291/€225), yet no confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.
4G is ramping up in India now
The 4G LTE technology hasn’t seen a wide adoption on this market as of now, as many carriers have yet to deploy networks based on it. The main reason for that is the lack of a wide range of affordable 4G handsets, it seems.
However, the standard is expected to ramp up in India shortly, the same as it did in other markets out there, and Microsoft appears set to fully capitalize on this with its new models.
Various wireless operators in the country are expected to start offering 4G services to their users as soon as the next year, providing them with Internet speeds that are up to 10 times faster than those available on 3G networks.
“We have lot of conversations going on with operators but specifically we are very bullish on LTE opportunity in India. Our conversation had been quite productive,” Microsoft's Mobile Device Sales, Corporate Vice President Chris Weber reportedly said.
Lumia 830 – an affordable flagship smartphone At the aforementioned price tag, the Nokia Lumia 830 should prove a much more appealing option when compared to rival devices running under Android and other mobile operating systems, especially since Microsoft is touting it as its new flagship phone.
As a reminder, the mobile phone was announced with a 5-inch IPS LCD touchscreen capable of delivering a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, and with a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor inside.
At the same time, the handset includes 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 128GB of additional storage space.
On the back, it features a 10-megapixel PureView camera with full HD video recording capabilities, paired with a 0.9MP wide angle front camera for video calling.
Nokia Lumia 830 is powered by a 2200mAh battery that can deliver up to 14.8 hours of talk time on 3G networks, or up to 22 days of standby time. The phone sports all of the usual connectivity capabilities and runs under the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 OS, with Lumia Denim software.
