Nokia and Verizon launched the Lumia 822 last month for $100/€80 on 2-year contracts. A few weeks after the initial release, the smartphone got a 50% discount and was offered for only $50/€40 with two-year agreements.

Less than two weeks ago major retailer Wirefly offered Verizon’s Lumia 822 for only $0.99 with new activations.

Well, it looks like Amazon thought it would be wise to match Wirefly’s deal on the Lumia 822 and is now selling the device for an even lower amount. Check it out here.

Nokia Lumia 822 is available from Amazon Wireless for only $0.01 for both new customers willing to commit to new two-year agreements, as well as for existing customers eligible for upgrade.

However, while Wirefly’s offer was available for a day, Amazon’s excellent promotional deal on Lumia 822 is likely to run for much longer. Keep in mind that the smartphone is available in three color versions: black, white and grey.

While not the best Windows Phone 8 device launched by Nokia, the Lumia 822 is a good alternative for those who cannot get their hands on the illusive Lumia 920.

The smartphone is powered by the same 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 225 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

The Lumia 822 also features microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB), besides the 16GB of internal memory available by default.

Another strong point of the Lumia 822 is the 8-megapixel rear photo snapper, which features Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, autofocus, dual-LED and full HD (1080p) video recording. A secondary 1.2-megapixel front facing camera is available as well.

The WP8-based smartphone also packs a decent 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution, and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.
