It's also expected to receive Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 update

There have been some rumors last year that Verizon would be picking up the Nokia Lumia 735, but that didn't happen yet. Since these speculations date from back September 2015, we thought that they were just rumors that did not come to fruition.

However, it looks like there's hope for Windows Phone fans who are still waiting for Verizon to add a new mid-range smartphone to its portfolio.

The folks over at WindowsCentral claim Nokia Lumia 735 is still on track to arrive at Verizon sometime later this Spring. There's a high chance that the smartphone will be launched in later May, but it might just as well go on sale in June.

Apparently, Verizon delayed the launch of the Lumia 735 for early 2015, which is why it didn't make it when the first rumors emerged. There's no telling why the Big Red decided to postpone the launch of the Lumia 735, but it's not the first time the carrier does it.

The Lumia 735 ships with Windows Phone 8.1 onboard, but by the time Verizon plans to release its carrier-branded version, the smartphone might be launched with Update 2.

It's unclear whether or not Verizon's Lumia 735 will have the same specs as the standard model

Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are the only smartphones that currently ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box, but Microsoft confirmed earlier today that Lumia 735 and Lumia 830 will be getting the update as well.

This is kind of surprising since Microsoft initially said that Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 will not be released to other smartphones. Since all the new features in this update will be included in Windows 10 for Phone we didn't think that will be an issue.

It looks like Microsoft thinks otherwise and has decided that at least to other smartphones should receive the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2: Nokia Lumia 735 and Lumia 830.

Rumors do not indicate an exact release date for Verizon Lumia 735, but we expect more details on the matter to surface in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
