Today, mobile phone maker Nokia officially announced the upcoming availability of its Nokia Lumia 720 smartphone on shelves in Australia, where it will be released on the networks of two wireless carriers, namely Virgin Mobile and Vodafone.

The handset will also be released through various retailers in the country, and will feature a recommended retail price of $429 AUD (around USD$448 / 349 Euro).

The smartphone was made official at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system loaded on top and with appealing imaging capabilities, given its price range.

Nokia packed this device with a 6.7-megapixel photo snapper with Carl Zeiss optics and an f1.9 aperture, while also launching it with a slim body, at only 9mm thick.

“As we continue to grow our smartphone offering, devices such as the Lumia 720 give breadth and depth to our Windows Phone 8 portfolio. With smartphone adoption continuing to grow in Australia, consumers want more choice at different price-points,” Nokia Australia’s Managing Director, Steve Lewis, said.

Smartphones like the Lumia 720 are critical to Nokia’s strategy as they allow us to bring familiar features such as high-end design, quality hardware, unparalleled imaging capabilities and a rich navigation experience to a wider audience.”

The specs list of the new device also includes a 4.3-inch ClearBlack WVGA LCD touchscreen display, a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot to expand it.

At the same time, the device packs a 2000 mAh battery, a front camera for making video calls, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS receiver, as well as support for HERE Maps and a variety of other applications and services from Nokia.

Nokia Lumia 720 is set to arrive at Virgin Mobile in Australia on April 4, while set to land at various retailers in the country starting with April 10. Vodafone has yet to officially announce the phone’s availability on its network.
