The second Windows Phone from Nokia is now available for purchase on the airwaves of wireless carrier Vodafone UK. The handset joins its bigger brother Lumia 800 on the operator’s network.

The new Nokia Lumia 710 was made available at Vodafone UK for free on monthly plans that start at £20.50 per month. It can be purchased both via the carrier’s stores, as well as through its website.

Running under Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 operating system, the new device has a lot to offer in terms of features and functionality.

Courtesy of Windows Phone, it keeps users up to date with what their friends are doing on social networking sites, and also keeps them connected with news and more.

The handset also packs applications that Nokia specifically designed for its Windows Phones, and which have been previously loaded on the Lumia 800.

“If you're looking for a light and durable smartphone with all the latest apps and social networks built in – the Nokia Lumia 710 could be the phone for you. It has many of the same features as the Nokia Lumia 800 with Windows Phone but at a more affordable price,” Vodafone notes.

The handset arrives on shelves with a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, a 1.4GHz application processor, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for video recording. Moreover, it has 8GB of internal memory, along with WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity capabilities.

“The Nokia Lumia 710 comes with Nokia Drive pre-installed – a free-of-charge guided satnav app filled with cool features. If you fancy pizza for dinner, just type 'pizza restaurant' into Nokia Drive. It'll let you search through the results, find the one you want and then guide you to the location,” the wireless carrier says.

Nokia Lumia 710 also provides users with fast access to a variety of applications designed for the Windows Phone platform, and also delivers fast web browsing via the included Internet Explorer 9.

“The Lumia 710 comes with Internet Explorer 9, so you can see web pages the way they were meant to be seen. Also, the search bar is conveniently placed at the bottom of the screen - so you can easily reach it with your finger,” Vodafone also notes.
