Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 930, the first smartphones in the world to have been announced with the new Windows Phone 8.1 operating system loaded on top, have become official in South Africa this week and will be released in the country in the next few months.

To be more precise, Microsoft has confirmed that the Nokia Lumia 630 will be launched on this market in July, with a price tag of 1,999 Rand ($188/€138) attached to it, and that Nokia Lumia 930 will arrive in September. Unfortunately, the cost of this device hasn’t been officially confirmed as of now.

The new Nokia Lumia 630 is expected to become highly successful in South Africa, Patrick Henchie, head of products for Microsoft Mobile Devices in South and East Africa, says, according to WMPoweruser.

“The Nokia Lumia 520 was one of the successful devices in South Africa and globally,” he claims, adding that Lumia 630 builds on this success.

South Africa is one of the countries where Windows Phone is enjoying increased traction from users, with a market share of over 6 percent there.

The launch of new handsets running under the Windows Phone 8.1 platform should help the platform gain some more ground in its battle with Android, iOS, and other mobile operating systems.
