Owners of Nokia Lumia 630 smartphones out there should start seeing a new platform upgrade available for their devices, providing them with a small set of welcome enhancements, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, Microsoft has decided to push out a software refresh for the Lumia 630 so as to bring it up to speed with the latest enhancements available inside the Nokia Cyan update.

The new platform release arrives on this mobile phone with some camera improvements, including continuous auto-focus, meant to make video recording better than before.

This feature was made available for Lumia users only several days ago as part of an updated Nokia Camera application, but it seems that Microsoft has decided to push it OTA to said Windows Phone 8.1 handset.

Additionally, the new firmware refresh arrives on Lumia 630 devices with Skype video calling showing in the dialer app, thus enabling users to place such a call much easier than before.

Before the update, the dialer did show a video calling option, but it has been replaced with the Skype video button now, a post on techtree explains.

Following the installation of this new platform release, Nokia Lumia 630 owners will see their phones running under software version 8.10.12397.895, it seems (this is, in fact, the same build number that Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview was released with).

Owners of this handset will receive the updated OTA and will see a notification when it is available for them. However, they can also manually check for the new firmware by going to Settings > Phone updates and hitting the Check for updates button.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Nokia Lumia 630 was the first Windows Phone 8.1-based smartphone to have arrived on the market this year.

When the phone landed on shelves, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore said that the platform was completed for it (and for other devices set to hit shelves with this OS loaded on top right from the start), but that it still needed refinement before being pushed to older phones.

Soon, mobile phone users around the world will be able to grab two new Nokia devices running under the OS, namely the Lumia 635 and Lumia 930, with handsets coming from other vendors set to arrive on the market very soon as well.

The Windows Phone 8.1 platform update is also getting ready for an official rollout on Windows Phone 8 devices, most probably starting early July, although no official info on when that should happen has been provided as of now.
