The smartphone goes for £15 a month on contract at various carriers

Today, Nokia officially announced the immediate availability of its Lumia 610 smartphone on the market in the UK.

This is the cheapest smartphone in the company’s Lumia series, and it arrives on shelves in the country in four different colors, namely white, cyan, magenta and black.

Although affordable, the Nokia Lumia 610 provides users with a wide range of social networking capabilities, as well as with other appealing features, including WiFi tethering and flip-to-silence.

The smartphone hits the UK market with a price tag of £15 ($23.5 / €19) per month attached to it, on contracts with wireless carriers such as O2, Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile. It can be purchased via The Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u as well.

The smartphone is capable of great social networking features through putting together contacts from mobile, email, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn in the same place through People Hub.

Moreover, it comes with exclusive applications from Nokia, including Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, Nokia Transport and Nokia Music, as well as with access to gaming features through Xbox Live.

"The 610 brings the fast and sleek Nokia Lumia experience to lower priced areas of the market," said Conor Pierce, vice president Western Europe, Nokia.

"Pre-loaded with Nokia Mix Radio, our free music streaming service and Nokia Drive, our global turn-by-turn navigation app, makes the Nokia Lumia 610 ideal for those looking for their first smartphone."

Nokia Lumia 610 also comes pre-loaded with Microsoft’s Office applications, enabling users to take advantage of Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents event when on the go.

It also comes with support for OneNote, so that users can capture ideas, notes, photos and voice memos on their handsets whenever they need it.

“The addition of SkyDrive, Microsoft's cloud storage service, files and notes can be synchronized, opened and edited from any PC or directly from their phone,” the Finnish handset vendor notes.
