Good news for Windows Phone fans, as the highly anticipated GDR3 update is in the last stages of development. At least two Nokia smartphones have been spotted running the Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer update, also known as GDR3.

WMPoweruser reports that Nokia Lumia 920 has recently been spotted in Vietnam running a “very strange version of WP8.” The smartphone’s display shows an extra row of tiles, which we thought would be available only for Nokia’s phablet, Lumia 1520.

However, it appears that Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer will bring support for extra rows of tiles to smartphones that pack display without support for full HD (1080p) resolution.

Another change that’s been included in the upcoming update and appears in these leaked pictures is the battery percentage, which is a feature that fans have been asking for.

The battery percentage appears only on the Lumia 920, which means that users will be able to enable/disable this feature as they see fit.

Among the live picture leaked via WinPhoneViet, there’s one that shows the Setting menu of the start screen, which features the following options:

- Change the background, and color schemes of the phone to suit your mood today, this week or both of months (background); - Color Themes (aquamarine); - Use the default icon.

There has been much talk on the small icon near the battery, which looks like a drop-down arrow. We’re not sure what it is, but it’s there on the Start Screen or anywhere else in the phone’s menu. It must be something that’s been included in the GRD3 update, as it appears right next to the battery.

We reported last week that Australian carrier Telstra had confirmed on its website that it would begin testing of GDR3 in November, so we should expect the major update to land in late 2013 or early 2014. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.

UPDATE: It appears that the mystery involving the drop-down arrow icon appearing in these leaked pictures has been solved. WMPoweruser reports this arrow showing on the status bar allows users to re-display missed or expired Toast Notifications.
