Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has officially announced the upcoming availability of the Nokia Lumia 520 smartphone on the Australian market, confirming that it would hit shelves in the country before the end of this month.

The Windows Phone 8 handset, the cheapest in the company’s Windows Phone range, will become available for purchase via a handful of retailers there, including Allphones, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, and JB Hi-Fi.

The smartphone will sport a price tag of $229 AUD ($239 USD / €183), but it is also set to be released on Telstra’s network on April 30, at $179 AUD ($187 USD / €143) on pre-paid plans.

With the launch of Lumia 520 in the country, Nokia will be able to offer handsets at all price points, Steve Lewis, Nokia’s Australian managing director, said, according to pcworld.

“This launch marks another important step for Nokia in delivering Lumia smartphones at every price point to appeal to the widest audience possible,” he also stated.

“The Lumia 520 is the most affordable Windows Phone 8 device ever launched in Australia. It will appeal to consumers who are looking to upgrade to a smartphone and want all the benefits without the high price tag, as well as organizations wanting to equip their fleet with the best business phone.”

Made official in February, Lumia 520 arrives in Australia in five color versions, namely White, Red, Yellow, Cyan, and Black (though only the Black and Yellow variants will be available in the beginning).

The smartphone packs a 4-inch touchscreen display, capable of delivering a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, and sports 512MB of RAM.

The smartphone’s specs also include 8GB of internal memory, microSD memory card slot, a 5MP photo snapper on the back, a 1430 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS receiver, as well as pre-loaded apps from Nokia, including Drive, Transit, Maps, and Music.
