Nokia Lumia 520, the most popular Windows Phone 8 smartphone out there, is currently receiving the GDR3 (General Distribution Release) update at more carriers around the world, including four in Canada.

Owners of this device on the networks of Rogers, TELUS, Chatr, and Koodo can now update their smartphones to the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system out there, a recent report on MobileSyrup unveils.

The update is being delivered to users as build number 3056.40000.1402.0001 and should provide them with a nice range of enhancements when compared to the software already available on their smartphones.

However, given the fact that Lumia 520 is an entry-level handset, some of the features included in the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update won’t be available for its users.

Even so, they should get a taste of enhancements such as better multitasking, improved camera capabilities, and Glance Screen tweaks.

Owners will be notified on the availability of the new OS version, but they can also check for it manually, through going to Settings > Phone Update > Check for Updates.

Apparently, Nokia is also getting ready for the release of GDR3 for the TELUS and Koodo Lumia 620 models, and should start rolling it out in the not too distant future.
