Tablet owners affected by the charger issues will now be compensated for their pains

Back in April, Nokia halted sales for its Lumia 2520 due to charger shock risks concerns. Affected customers were advised to stop using the tablet altogether and await further instructions from the company.

Not long after, Nokia invited affected users to register online in order to request a replacement plug for the affected part. But now since Microsoft has taken over, they are looking to deal with the issue at different new levels, which translates into them providing compensation not just a replacement, reports Wpcentral.

For those who missed our earlier story, Nokia had to quickly issue callbacks and halt sales of its Lumia 2520 tablet, which until then received excellent reviews in the press and from customers. Owners located in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and UK were advised to abstain from using the tablet for a while.

The advisory included a total of 30,000 chargers, out of which 600 were sold in the US. Strangely enough, Nokia didn't stop the sales of the tablet in the country, but only for the juice-pumping accessory.

According to the tech company, the problem lies with plastic cover of the charger’s exchangeable plug, which in certain conditions will come loose and separate, exposing certain components that could deliver an electric shock when touched by a user.

The charger has been produced by a third-party manufacturer and will exclusively work with the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet.

Anyway, until now Nokia has offered to replace the chargers, but since Microsoft stepped into the picture, we’re seeing a new approach on things.

Now affected owners of the Lumia 2520 tablet are being offered an £80 / $135 / €98 Amazon voucher, customers can spend in the webstore. Microsoft hopes this act of good will is going to make it easier for users to get over their woes.

It’s a little bit odd how Microsoft didn't offer the voucher for its own Windows store, but bottom line is the Amazon will offer more variety in terms of overall choice. Furthermore, customers can opt to get something more than apps, like clothes or cookware.

If you are one of the affected owners of the Nokia Lumia 2520, you should expect to receive an email from Microsoft complete with the redemption code you can use to shop in Amazon. Keep an eye out for it! Be advised that you should be a registered user for support regarding the charger issues in order to receive the email.
