Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia might have been a bit behind the trend when the first Android-based smartphones were launched, but the company is catching up fast, and the latest devices it has brought to the market prove that.

We’re referring here to the Nokia Lumia 1520, Lumia 1320, and the Nokia Lumia Icon, all three released in the past several months with the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Of course, there are also the new handsets in the Nokia X family, which are aimed at the entry- and mid-levels of the market, but which look quite appealing, that’s for sure.

However, with the mobile industry moving fast towards even more powerful handsets, it still remains to be seen when exactly Nokia will launch its first smartphone to pack, say, a 2k screen.

If enthusiasts are to be believed, it won’t be long before that happens, despite the fact that Nokia hasn’t offered any kind of confirmation on the matter.

The Nokia Lumia 1620 concept phone that can be seen in the photos attached to this post is proof of the fact that users are already dreaming of the day when Nokia will release a new, very high-end device.

Coming from Karl Panase (via concept-phones), the smartphone is meant to offer a glimpse at this designer’s vision of “the new face of Lumia.” The handset packs some great hardware specifications as well, and it would certainly prove a success should Nokia actually launched it.

For example, Lumia 1620 was conceived with a 5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display capable of delivering a 2K resolution, as well as with a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor inside, paired with 3GB of RAM.

Moreover, it sports a 20-megapixel camera with dual LED flash on the back and a Lytro camera capable of recording videos in 4K resolution, the same as some of the latest high-end Android-based smartphones out there can.

The specs list of the handset also includes Gorilla Glass 3 protection, Dolby Digital Plus sound technology, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of additional storage space, and a non-removable Li-Ion 3300 mAh battery with wireless charging capabilities.

The Nokia Lumia 1620 concept device also features a Fabula Design, while running under Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 operating system. It also comes with a series of special Kinect features, and is only 8.3 mm thick.

The Nokia Lumia 1620 concept phone is not far from what a high-end smartphone can offer today, which makes it a possible candidate for Nokia’s future lineup. For the time being, however, it is only a concept device, and it should be treated as such.
