The Windows Phone 8 device is considered the top gaming smartphone

Last month, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics unveiled to the world its latest Android-based flagship handset, in the form of Galaxy S5, which might not perform as great as expected when it comes to gaming performance.

The handset comes to the market with one of the latest Qualcomm processors packed inside, namely a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset, which was expected to deliver the highest levels of performance currently possible.

As it turns out, this might not be the case, at least this is what testing results in Rightware’s Basemark X show. Nokia Lumia 1520, which was launched last year with a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor inside, was able to perform much better.

According to Rightware, Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 handset is the top gaming smartphone at the moment, with a score that is 6 percentage points higher than the one for Galaxy S5.

Of course, when it comes to the actual experience that users will receive from the two devices, benchmarking results might not count as much, that’s for sure, as phablist notes.

However, it’s worth noting that the Nokia Lumia 1520 was able to outperform the new Samsung Galaxy S5 despite the fact that it comes with an older processor packed inside. It does, however, feature a 6-inch screen, and not only a 5.1-inch display, as the new Android phone.

Other differences between the two should also be noted, such as the fact that Google’s Android operating system makes use of OpenGL ES accelerated 3D graphics, while Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS uses Direct3D 9_3.

Phablist also notes that Windows Phone was built in such a manner that it can deliver a consistently smooth experience across all kinds of devices, including those with lower specs inside, something that doesn’t happen at all times when Android is involved.

Nokia Lumia 1520, the latest flagship smartphone from Nokia, has a lot of other appealing capabilities to offer to its users as well, although not all people out there might feel attraction towards its large design.

The smartphone can offer an appealing overall experience, and other benchmark test results confirm that, though it did not manage to top the charts in all of them, as it happened with Basemark X.

In the overall Basemark OS II test, for example, Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 smartphone was placed only fifth, behind Apple’s iPhone 5 model.

Nokia Lumia 1520 is already available for purchase in a wide range of markets around the world. The Galaxy S5, however, will not hit shelves until April 11, when Samsung releases it in around 150 countries.
