It looks like AT&T has finally started to push the Windows Phone 8.1 update for Nokia Lumia 1020. The carrier has just announced that the Lumia 1020 will be the fourth smartphone under its banner that will get the highly-anticipated update.

AT&T has already released Windows Phone 8.1 for Nokia Lumia 1520, Lumia 925, and Lumia 520 smartphones in its portfolio, so the Lumia 1020, as mentioned earlier, is the fourth in the carrier's lineup of Windows Phone handsets that gets the update.

Here is what you will get after updating to Windows Phone 8.1, according to AT&T:

“Personalization – Live Tiles with multiple sizes, transparency, and color options let you pin apps, music and people to your Start Screen so you choose the information you want to be displayed in the way you want to see it.

One Windows – With OneDrive, Skype, Office and Bing, the Windows experience is reinvented across all your screens—phones, tablets, PCs and Xbox—so you can shoot, share, work and play on the go.

Xbox – With Xbox games, music and video in your pocket, you’ll have entertainment options on-the-go.

Efficiency – Windows Phone is optimized to help you do more, with the new Word Flow keyboard, Action Center for managing notifications and quick actions, and a new suite of device and data management tools.

Word Flow keyboard with shape writing – The updated Word Flow keyboard with Windows Phone 8.1 knows your contacts, learns your phrases and has shape writing integrated right in so there’s no need for a separate app.”

Nokia Lumia 1020 owners on AT&T should start checking their smartphone for the update by going to Settings / Phone Update. If the update is available for you, then simply follow the prompts on the screen to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1.

Keep in mind that the Windows Phone 8.1 now released by AT&T should also contain the Lumia Cyan update, which means your Nokia Lumia 1020's camera with get some well-deserved improvements.

Obviously, you will also get the final version of Cortana, which is only available in the United States. You will also get a customizable Start Screen where you can configure Live Tiles in three different sizes.

It's also important to note that this update is delivered OTA (over-the-air) in waves, which means it might not be available to all Nokia Lumia 1020 units at the same time.
