Nokia Lumia 1020 was never considered among the best-selling Windows Phone handsets available on the market, and it wasn’t even intended to become one.

Right from the beginning, Nokia thought to launch the Lumia 1020 as a niche device that would target customers looking for a camera phone that could replace their professional photo cameras.

The Lumia 1020 is packed with the latest imaging technologies Nokia had at the time of launch, which is why the smartphone was priced very high in the first place.

However, as time passes by and smartphones become older, they also get cheaper. A few discounts here and there and you can see a previously expensive smartphone going on sale for pretty affordable amounts.

This seems to be the case with the Nokia Lumia 1020 as well, as the smartphone is one of the best-selling Windows Phone handsets in Germany, along with Lumia 820.

Aside from the slightly discount that Microsoft is offering for the Lumia 1020, it’s also worth mentioning that Germany is one of the strongest smartphone markets for Windows Phone.

The mobile operating system is far from being popular in the United States with a 3.4% market in June, but it looks like more and more people decide to go for Windows Phone in Europe.

Windows Phone market share in Europe has already reached 8.8% and could hit the 10% milestone by the end of the year if Microsoft gets it right with the next smartphones that should go on sale in the next couple of months.

In Germany, Windows Phone market share accounts for 6.4%, which is good enough for the moment, but not nearly enough to beat other European countries like Italy (10.1%), UK (9.6%) and Spain (7.5%).

As mentioned earlier, Nokia Lumia 1020 is meant to be the ultimate camera phone. In this regard, the handset is equipped with a 41-megapixel rear-facing camera that features Carl Zeiss optics, OIS (optical image stabilization), Xenon flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Obviously, the phone’s camera is packed with PureView technology and offers lots of extra features, like dual capture, face detection and panorama.

In the front, the Lumia 1020 packs a secondary 1.2-megapixel camera that can capture 720p videos and allows users to take and make video calls, as well as selfies.

Currently, Nokia Lumia 1020 is available for purchase in Germany for only €375 ($500) outright, which is a great deal considering the smartphone was initially priced at €520 ($700).
