Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia brought to the market in India two new handsets powered by Symbian, namely the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7 smartphones.

These devices were unveiled to the world only several weeks ago with the new Symbian Anna operating system on board, and are both available in only a few markets around the world, India now included.

Apparently, Nokia sees the Indian market as one of the most important markets for distributing its Symbian-based handsets, as well as for devices that run under the S40 platform.

“We aim to further consolidate our leadership position in the Indian smartphone market,” Viral Oza, marketing director of Nokia India reportedly stated.

One of the steps the company will take in this direction will be the delivery of a software update for Symbian^3-based phones to the new OS flavor.

Nokia will release the Symbian Anna platform to Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokai C7 and the Nokia C6-01 devices in July or August.

At the same time, the company is set to bring more handsets to shelves in the country, with a total number of 10 symbian phones set to be launched in the next 12 months or so, just as previously announced.

Nokia E6 and Nokia X7 are only the first new devices the company will bring to shelves in India, and they are not included in the said number.

Nokia X7 is a multimedia device that packs a large 4” HD display, an 8 megapixel camera on the back with support for HD video recording, and impressive gaming capabilities.

The mobile phone was made available for purchase in shades of dark steel and light steel, featuring an MRP of Rs. 22,829.

The Nokia E6 sports a QWERTY keyboard and premium features, being able to easily fulfill the needs of both professionals and regular users. This device was launched across India in three color flavors, namely black, silver and white, and sports a MRP of Rs. 18,679.
