Nokia has just announced the immediate availability of the official Twitter client for Series 40 mobile phones. Created by Nokia, the application can be downloaded via Nokia Store, free of charge.

With the new Twitter for Series 40 feature phones, users will be able to follow their interests, instant updates from friends, industry experts, favorite celebrities, and what’s happening around the world.

In addition, Nokia fans who decided to go for the company’s S40 handsets will be able to take advantage of instant news and updates from their friends, right to their mobile phones.

According to Nokia, “with the new Twitter app, you will experience some of the richest functionality an app can bring to your Series 40 device, delivering much of the same functionality found on smartphones. Get short bursts of timely information on the official Twitter app.”

As expected, users will be able to post their own Tweets and follow others’ Tweets, but additional features have been included as well.

For example, the @Connect feature allows users to check out their mentions and new followers, as well as browse some of the most important Tweets from around the world using the #Discover feature.

Furthermore, the new application developed by Nokia brings some of the most interesting features that are already included within the Twitter client for smartphones. With the S40 version, Twitter will now be available to millions of people who own feature phones around the world.

It is also worth mentioning that the Finnish company confirmed Twitter for Nokia would be pre-loaded on all future Series 40 phones.

The first version of Twitter for Nokia is now available as a free download from Nokia Store and it should be fully compatible with all S40 features phones. Check it out here.

On a side note, it appears that Symbian fans have been left out, as Nokia has yet to launch an official Twitter client for Symbian smartphones.
