Nokia has recently released an application that should appeal to the owners of a Symbian S60 or S40 handset a lot. The company’s Audio Smileys is a funny mobile software meant to play funny sounds that can make you laugh for sure.

According to the Finnish mobile phone maker, “Audio Smileys is a cute little application that allows you to play funny sounds to express your feelings. It is mostly targeted for youngsters, but of course, anyone can use it for fooling around with friends, or pulling pranks at co-workers. Once launched, just press keys 1...9 on your keypad to play the sound. In addition, you can create your own audio smileys with the built-in audio smiley editor.”

The Nokia Audio Smileys app is stated to work with any traditional alphanumeric keypad, but can also be used on QWERTY-keypad devices, although only the center key can be employed to play sounds. Touchscreen devices do not support the application. The Nokia Audio Smileys requires Java version CLDC-1.1 and MIDP-2.0 to be installed on the phone in order to work.

The application is only a beta release, which means that it comes around with some issues also, including the fact that users of an S40 handset need to wait for a sound to end before being able to play another one. If keys are pressed too fast, the device might freeze and crash, the company announces. At the same time, some phone models might not display the entire volume bar at the bottom.

A series of problems with the picture customization are also reported to appear, as some S60 devices will not be able to load pictures that have more than 400kb, while Series 40 handsets are known to be unable to load pictures of more than 30kb.

The Nokia Audio Smileys can be downloaded from Softpedia as well, via this link. Take a look at the video below to see the application at work.
