Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced today the release of three new mobile phones, the Nokia 2730 classic, Nokia 2720 fold and Nokia 7020, all of which are aimed at delivering Internet capabilities to emerging markets. In addition, the three devices are also meant to allow users to stay closer to information, entertainment, family and friends, as they also include support for the company's Nokia Life Tools and Ovi Mail.

“The power of the Internet is undeniable,” says Alex Lambeek, vice president at Nokia. “We've seen mobile technologies catalyze the growth of the informal sector across the world, empowering local entrepreneurs and having an immediate and lasting impact on people's lives. Services like Nokia Life Tools and Ovi Mail, combined with the mobile phones we're launching today, bring powerful solutions that can be the gateway to knowledge, entertainment and people, without the need for a PC.”

The new Nokia 2730 classic comes to the market as the most affordable Nokia 3G handset, which can provide fast access to Internet, as well as a rich browsing experience. According to the phone maker, the new device can prove to be a great option when it comes to connectivity in the developing markets. The handset should start shipping in the third quarter of the ongoing year, with a price tag of EUR 80.

The Nokia 2720 fold features a compact form factor, along with a mirror-effect design, and can offer users all that they need to keep their life organized, says Nokia, including easy access to email, calendar, Internet connectivity and file sharing applications. As many of you might already know, the email setup process on the Nokia 2720 fold includes only three easy steps, and the device will also come with Nokia Life Tools in select markets. The handset is expected to start shipping in Q3 as well, while sporting a price tag of EUR 55 before subsidies and taxes.

The third handset announced today, the Nokia 7020, is a fold phone that sports light, color and metal finishes to offer personalization options. Users will be able to tap the handset to light the cover up, as well as to experience a stardust effect when receiving a call or a message. The phone also features support for social networking sites, as well as sharing options, a 2-megapixel photo snapper and a bright display. The device is expected to start shipping in Q4 2009 for a price tag of EUR 90 before subsidies and taxes.

“With our longstanding commitment to emerging markets, a Nokia customer can be confident that any product we offer meets a strict and consistent set of high-quality standards. This is particularly important in markets where technical assistance and repair shops are not easily accessible,” concluded Lambeek.
