The tablet will be released in China in mid-February 2015

For those Nokia fans out there, the N1 is a must. The tablet that’s been introduced a few days ago during Slush 2014 conference is going to be released in China in mid-February and it will cost only $250 (€200) plus taxes.

Even though Europeans and other customers in select markets won’t be able to get one when the tablet goes on sale in early 2015, Nokia has promised that the N1 will eventually make the jump to other countries soon after it gets released in China.

The N1 announcement took many by surprise, as the Finnish company was very unlikely to re-enter the consumer market with one or more products.

The thing that probably weighed a lot was the huge positive feedback the company has received after releasing the Z Launcher for Android devices. According to Nokia, its Z Launcher reached 100,000 downloads in just one day.

Suddenly, Nokia thought it would be wise to design a product that would match the new Z Launcher, and given the fact that it can’t release any smartphones by the end of 2016, they took the tablet route.

The N1 is a marvelous tablet design-wise. Many have compared it with Apple’s iPad Mini 3 when it comes to look, but Nokia’s product is much more powerful on the inside, at least on paper.

Equipped with Intel’s 64-bit 2.3GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, Nokia N1 will be capable of running just about any app, service or game you will throw at it.

On top of that, the tablet packs 32GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion. The 7.9-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display supports 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution and 326ppi.

Unlike the iPad Mini 3 that features a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, Nokia’s slate comes with an improved 8-megapxiel shutter. To make things even more appealing for potential customers, Nokia also added an enhanced 5-megapixel camera in the front for perfect selfies.

Nokia N1 will be powered by a 5300 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the Finnish company. Connectivity-wise, the N1 will only be available in Wi-Fi version, but we shouldn’t rule out a 3G version in the future.

More importantly, the N1 will be pre-loaded with the newest version of Z Launcher, which will run on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

The N1 tablet seems like a great comeback for Nokia, but only time will tell if the Finnish company was right to re-enter the consumer market after all it’s been through.
